We gave A a little strawberry plant that I found in the dollar bin at Target for Valentine’s day. We haven’t had the chance to start the plant, so we did it this week and it was such a great activity and really pre-school friendly for A.

Here is the little plant:

It’s a little pot that comes with a growing medium and seeds. The basic instructions are on the inside of the label. You basically grow the soil, then add the sides then place it in a sunny spot and water daily. Once the plants get about three inches tall you transfer the plant to a bigger pot.

Growing the soil. In my opinion the best part of the project. You get this little disc sized pod and then add three tablespoons of water and it grows into soil before your eyes…science at work!

I then let A scoop the soil into the pot and then we patted the little seeds in on top.

I let A set the plant on a chair in the kitchen for awhile then we moved it to the window above our kitchen sink to keep it from being knocked over. A loved this simple activity and is already anticipating yummy strawberries…let’s hope they grow!!
