I started J Baby’s mobile the week that I went into labor. I was carefully gluing ribbons onto a round knitting hope while I was having contractions. I only half finished. six months later, I finally completed the project!
While one side was a bit shorter than the other, it overall came out beautifully. I constantly tweak craft projects, so in the future I may add another layer of ribbon on the inside. Similar instructions for creating the mobile can be found here and here.
Here is what I did:
Various ribbons (you will need A BUNCH)
To cover the knitting hoop I wrapped knitting yarn around it, then glued the ends. Then cut the ribbons at various lengths (longer is better, just make sure the baby can’t reach it!) and then glued them sporadically around the hoop on the inside. I did not adhere to any pattern or length of ribbon. Finally I doubled a wider ribbon and hot glued it to the inside to make the hanger for the knitting hoop.
In addition you can also purchase some beautifully already completed mobiles like this on Etsy.
On another note…I am a head first diving in crafter. I don’t always start projects with a plan and they don’t always end well. Another mobile I loved was this one from Etsy:
So I tried to create something along the same idea for J:
It really looks best like this…laying on the floor. Oh and it probably took me three hours total to cut out those circles. Sometimes you craft it and sometimes you need to appreciate someone else’s ability and purchase it!
