Oh, hi there new shutters. For about the first five months of living in our house we only had half our shutters because the factory that produced them shut down during the pandemic. The little mascara lifts to our red brick house, the shutters make it seem actually complete now. Inside our red brick house I have a few updates to share now that Christmas is down and packed away for the year.
First up is our mantel,
I cannot say enough about the excellent quality of Vine + Branches canvases. The mirror and candlesticks I purchased years ago at Kirkland’s (like a Home Goods type store in our area), and the straw vase and greenery are Target (vase is old, greenery is new- Hearth and Hand). I use books a lot as stacking items (as you see here), because it rings true with our aesthetic in the house (B would have a room full of book cases if he could).
Another bright and shiny new spot is the area in our kitchen that is also part of the hallway. In our new house I have had to spend time figuring how to make “spaces” because it is very open. So things tend to feel lost on the walls, and it’s hard to figure out how to accommodate that.
For this area, I started with a console table from Studio McGee’s Target line this past fall (I would link it if it was still available, but it’s not…and I’m not ashamed to admit I got up at midnight to order it when it came out last fall). Over the console table I put the three gray IKEA frames that were over the couch in our old house. Then I added a lamp from Target beside the table, and the large Canvas to the side that A and I painted long ago. On the table I have just a few items including a small Vine + Branches canvas (this one is from Hobby Lobby), a thin gray vase holding faux dogwood branches, the boys’ school pictures, and a candle. The little golden bull is sitting on top of our Chatbooks stack, and the metal ampersand is an Anthropologie find from years ago. The baskets underneath are also Studio McGee for Target and they hold winter grab and go items, and B’s giant Go board. Eventually I want to get some sort of small ottoman to go on the other side of the table, but I haven’t found anything I love yet, so I’m waiting.
Happy house updating!
