So this is my advertising pitch. If you are ever in northern California and want to see redwoods, you have to do this. It’s the roaring camp railway and it takes you by steam train through the redwoods. It’s absolutely breathtaking. My Mom and Papa love trains, so this was a definite must on our list. I loved the experience for the boys because it was so open to their personalities. The ride is an hour and a half, but it’s 35 minutes and then a 10 minute stop at the top of the mountain to walk around, and then 35 minutes back. Then once you get back there is a mile hike (very easy) that takes you around some of the more famous redwoods (yes there are famous ones…they refer to them as Mommas and babies, no joke my friends) and types of redwoods. My favorite fact? Eventually they get tired of holding themselves up, so they fall down, but they don’t die. They just rest on the redwoods around them and continue to grow.
