Fresh and fluffy plants

In the midst of moving out of our house, one of the things I drove over individually to my parents were my indoor plants. I’m not the best plant lady, but I’ve come to value having air purifying plants in our home. I’ve really needed to repot several of our plants, but I haven’t had a chance to yet this year. I found two larger pots at Target and one at Lowe’s and repotted the four plants that had out grown their homes.

I would’ve had a before picture, but I totally forgot, here are the pots:

And now here they are in their new pots:

They look so much happier! The biggest plant (on the far left) was in the second to left pot, so obviously they all needed bigger spaces. Now I’m just working on them having enough light and proper water amounts until I move them into their new spots. I managed to find pots from Lowe’s (far left), and Target (the other three), but it was not easy! There are weird things in limited supply these days and apparently plant pots are one of them.

June Make-Up Buys

Some refills and some new items to test out this month! First up, a few of my usual rotations:

Essie no chips ahead topcoat. You will never convince me another topcoat lasts longer than this one. I’ve tried many, and it’s the best.

Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen. This is my current favorite primer for my IT CC cream. If I’m wearing the CC cream, I’m wearing this and I have yet to get burned this summer on my face.

Tarte lip balm in Nude. Love it, wear it almost everyday!.

I switch between Neutrogena and Clinique make up remover. They are pretty similar and I typically only use them for cleaning brushes, so I would go for the steal instead of the splurge.

My boys hate sunblock that smells (is their a kid out there that relishes the smell of sunblock?), so I’m always on the hunt for ones that don’t. Their favorite is the Neutrogena Clear Face, but the SPF on that one is kind of low, especially for being in the pool. I tested out the Sport Face one this month and I feel like it stays better, and no smell.

Ouai air dry foam. Wow does this smell amazing! It makes your hair super soft, and I think if I did double buns it would have had even more of a wave the next day.

Pixie eye patches. Tricky to put on, but they are very cooling, and make a big difference in puffiness under my eyes.

Morphe M105. A narrower countering brush, good for bronzer placement. First saw it on a Lindsey Regan Thorne make-up tutorial and I really like it!

I also picked up a few items for A this month:

Dove deodorant. Good smelling, not super strong.

With the amount of pool time the boys have had this summer, I needed to up their hair care routine. The boys have totally different hair types, so I tested out this shampoo and conditioner with A. It doesn’t have a strong scent and his hair has been super soft and healthy looking!

One of my goals with the boys is that they learn and understand the importance of good skin care and hygiene. This Supergoop moisturizer is for A to put on every morning. He really needs to wear sunscreen everyday, and this one has no scent and NO sticky feeling like most sunblocks. I tested it out and I love it for days when I wear no other makeup. So much so, that I may buy another container for myself.

February Beauty Buys

This month I had several items I was restocking and then just a few new items to fast forward towards Spring.

First is my Garnier Micellar Water restock. This is my favorite make-up remover. I feel like it doesn’t leave an oily residue like marked “make-up removers” do and it really helps get your skin completely clean. I combine it with my stand by cleanser.

I restocked my hairspray, I use the Bumble and Bumble until empty. I’ve tried lots of other hairsprays, but this one has hold without being crunchy or stiff.

I have seen the peace out acne dots on several influencers blogs and wanted to try them out. I would say they are okay. I don’t find them to make a marked difference in reducing a pimple faster and if you have more sensitive skin, it will leave a red, slightly raised spot for a bit in the morning when you take the dot off.

I’m constantly on the hunt for shampoo for B that doesn’t have anything in it he’s allergic to, and the Odele shampoo fit the bill. So far he’s liked it, and it has no fragrance.

Every night that I wash my hair (about two to three times a week), I follow it with Bumble and Bumble styling cream scrunched in from the scalp and then I spray L’Oréal Priming Spray all over and It’s a 10 keratin on the ends only. Fair warning, spray over a towel (or over your tub and rinse it down), because they make tile slick when the spray gets on them. Don’t ask me how I know. But trust me.

A refill of my favorite perfume was one of my gifts from B for Valentine’s.

I like the Stila waterproof eyeliner in dark brown, and switch between it and Revlon’s color stay liquid liner.

I went throw and tossed quite a few old our used nail polishes a few weeks ago, so I re-stocked my stash with Essie polishes in Marshmallow, Spring in Your Step, and Check In to Check Out.

After seeing Cristin Cooper’s dermaplaning step by step, I decided I needed to add in m-61 glow pads to my weekly routine. When I first used them, they stung. A lot. Like, oh no, what have I done, stinging. But then it stopped and my face looked great. I would say to definitely read the directions and check with your dermatologist because I’m not an expert and your skin may be too sensitive for these. They are sold out on Amazon right now, but will hopefully restock.

I also tried the isle of paradise tanning drops (I use the lightest shade) to give me just a bit of glow as my skin is just supremely dry this time of year. I only do two drops mixed with my moisturizer once a week and I don’t use them at night because they do have just a bit of a tanning lotion smell. However, they are really easy to use, not streaky. Just make sure to follow the directions on the package and online.

Finally, sugar caramel lip balm. I used up all my trial size of this one and bought the full balm. I love it!

The sweet spot

Oh, how I love Valentine’s Day! The boys love it too. I wasn’t going to get out decorations this year because we are prepping to put the house on the market, but I decided to put out just a few. They are so excited! It also reminded me that even though we are moving, it’s good to stay positioned in the now. I have always been a future thinker, what’s next, when are we going to get there. However, really in the past few years I have been working to think about future steps, while also remaining present in the now. Now that I’ve gone completely philosophical, let’s take a step back into reality with a few items that would be high on my Valentine gift list!

First, a set of fun barrettes, I like finding items that are more trend oriented at a reasonable price.

A sweet sweater that has a gorgeous bow detailing in the back.

I llama love this pouch, and I do!

A re-stock of my favorite everyday perfume.

Fun cozy slides.

Heart hoop earrings.

Friday Favorites

The kiddos have one week of swim lessons down! They boys are definitely stretching their skills this year, working on diving, backstroke, and longer periods of freestyle. And our newest swim lesson participant, my niece, is doing great working on her back float! This weekend we are headed to our local art walk downtown, and doing some hiking and biking with B’s parents if the weather holds out. I can’t believe we are winding down the second half of summer! Only three more weeks until school schedules, sports, and everything else is in full swing again!

Organization ideas from Target.

The puzzle we finished over the weekend.

Summertime lemonade options.

My yoga schedule for the month.

And a plan to get my heels on the ground for downward dog.

A cookbook dedicated to my most favorite food.

My Bible reading plan for the month.

Food meal planning ideas for high/low macro days.

Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe.

Six herbs to grow inside when it’s too cold or hot out.

Corn fritters for a veggie filled weeknight dinner.

And, I’m not shopping the Nordstrom sale until next week, but if there is anything left, I’m picking up these sneakers, this tank, and these pants.

Drugstore tried and true

So for when I can’t use a filter (like out there in the real world with no instastories), some of my favorite products, are *gasp* not from Sephora. I thought I would share some of my tried and true favorites that can be found at your local drugstore, or grocery store for  that matter. I’m pretty loyal to my brands & products, each of these items I’ve been using for around ten years (not the specific one’s I’m showing, obviously you need to buy new, ha!). Without further adieu, here are my favorites!

1. First up, all the brushes. I know that you can buy more expensive brushes, but I’ve been using Sonia Kashuk brushes since the year 2000, and they are so comparable I don’t know why you’d spend more. I also really love Elf’s powder brushes.

2. Revlon color stay eye liner. This is tricky to learn how to use, but since I’ve been using it since 1998 (yup, over 20 years), I’ve got it down to a science. I’ve tried other brands and always come back to this one.

3. Covergirl lash blast mascara. I’m always worried they are going to phase this one out because it’s my very favorite.

4. L’Oreal colour riche liner in dark brown. I love this one because it doesn’t tug on my eyes when I put it on and it matches the color stay eye liner.

5. Revlon nudes color palette. I ran out of this one earlier this year and about panicked because I thought they stopped making it. If you see me on the weekend with make-up, this is what I’m wearing.

6. Olay depuffing eye roller. Doesn’t irritate my eyes, and I use it morning and night.

7. Tweezerman eyelash curler. I swap out the cushions on this regularly.

8. Sonia Kashuk make-up beauty blender sponges. The little blenders are perfect for contouring and highlighting.

Happy beauty shopping! Oh and Target has a gift card with $20 purchase right now! I’m getting my gift card when I buy this sunscreen since I’m on a quest to find a sunscreen I can wear everyday that doesn’t break my skin out. I’ve trued the Elta MD but it was super drying, so I’m still searching.

One camisole two ways

Some times we get to the end of the week and there are no sports, no Cub Scout meetings, homework is minimal, and we don’t feel like cooking dinner after work. It’s on these nights we do a quick change and go out to grab something to eat. I thought I’d share one of my favorite quick changes from work to casual dinner out.

First up is my work look, brought to you by my Mom taking a picture of me while I was sitting to chat for a minute when picking up the boys:

Cardigan, Camisole, Pants, Shoes, Sunglasses

And my going out to dinner outfit:

Camisole, Jeans, Shoes, Sunglasses, Purse (Super Old-Similar here)

If you haven’t noticed I do love a bright shoe! I wear quite a bit of neutrals for work, and everyday, so I like punching it up with a bit of color. Happy quick change and dinner out!
