Spring capsule wardrobe

From last Fall to now, I’ve had to toss (and I mean literally toss out), several shoes and clothing items because I’ve had them for 15-20 years (yup, you read that correctly), and they fell apart. I was walking in a pair of shoes to teach and they came apart on the bottom of my foot. So, I’ve shopped online stores to start a Spring wardrobe capsule of replacement items.

I put in a Nordstrom order for a new pair of everyday slides, booties, and a black midi skirt:

At Madewell online I picked up these wide flair pants and a tie-dye top:

At Social Threads online I bought three new tops and two stretchy bracelets to stack:

And here are four ways to mix and match it all:

Happy online shopping, friends!!

Friday Favorites

Baby ducklings are J’s favorite, and according to my Mom, the feeling is mutual. They’ve been following him around all week. I know they will be sad to see the ducklings and chicks go (they go back to their farm this weekend). Today we’ve got school Valentine’s parties and then we have a fondue dinner planned for at home tomorrow night. And then we are sleeping in on Saturday and it’s going to be grand! We’ve had something every night this week, and I think we are all ready for a long weekend of relaxation. Here are some of my favorites of the week!

My current hair style and color.

Tips for styling hair in rainy weather, which is every day here.

Book I just added to my reading list.

The couch I have my eye on for our new family room.

Sweatshirt from Amazon that my fitness instructor was wearing last week.

Closet staples from Nordstrom.

Favorite yoga practice of the week.

Piper & Leaf is killing it with their teas. I may have to make a trip out this weekend to pick it up!

Spring sandals.

The podcast that made me laugh out loud.

Finally, my new favorite granola snack.

Activewear for star jumps

My goal for this year is to do some sort of fitness every day. Not to lose weight, but in a determination to keep the flexibility, muscle tone, and strength that I have. I do a combination of high intensity, strength training, AMRAP, and yoga. With that in mind I decided to give myself a few incentives to keep up with continuing exercise, in the form of new activewear. At the end of January I ordered a new pair of Adidas leggings and a Zella top from Nordstrom:

And new Adidas sneakers:

So my thoughts on all of it:

The pants are very comfortable. They did roll down a bit when I was doing an intense work-out, so I would suggest them for strength training or yoga. The top has a cute detail in the back. It’s closer to a cotton material, but is extremely light weight and didn’t bunch up when doing multiple burpees and box jumps. The shoes are amazing. Seriously, my favorite. They fit like a glove, and don’t slip. The laces are a little bit slippery, so you definitely want to double knot them.

See the back detail? So cute!

The sweet spot

Oh, how I love Valentine’s Day! The boys love it too. I wasn’t going to get out decorations this year because we are prepping to put the house on the market, but I decided to put out just a few. They are so excited! It also reminded me that even though we are moving, it’s good to stay positioned in the now. I have always been a future thinker, what’s next, when are we going to get there. However, really in the past few years I have been working to think about future steps, while also remaining present in the now. Now that I’ve gone completely philosophical, let’s take a step back into reality with a few items that would be high on my Valentine gift list!

First, a set of fun barrettes, I like finding items that are more trend oriented at a reasonable price.

A sweet sweater that has a gorgeous bow detailing in the back.

I llama love this pouch, and I do!

A re-stock of my favorite everyday perfume.

Fun cozy slides.

Heart hoop earrings.

Neutral stripes

Similar styles:

Camisole

Pants

Cardigan

Boots

Nail polish

It’s full on Fall here! Rainy days and falling leaves, and I’m loving the weight of my striped cardigan. The stripes add interest, while still keeping with the neutral theme. I also love that the colors of the cardigan means you can pair it with a variety of other neutrals. The point of the boot toe dresses up the outfit, and the camisole under the cardigan is perfectly paired!

Blush & Print for Fall

I have a bit of a confession. I’m super lazy when it comes to accessories. I’ll spend time carefully planning my outfit the night before, and then when I go to put on accessories the next morning, I either a) forget, or b) feel overwhelmed trying to pick them out. In a move to combat that I’ve started stream lining my accessories, creating a capsule collection of them and then switching out outfits that coordinate. I’ve created three different looks to share, all using the same accessories, just switching out the outfits! Here is the line-up of accessories:

A fun essentials clutch for my purse.

An investment purse to wear with everything.

Cute peep-toe booties to transition to fall.

Hoops that add a bit of sparkle but aren’t overwhelming in size (I go with smaller hoops because when I teach larger hoops will swing around when I talk….my students would say I’m pretty animated, ha!).

My favorite lip gloss for when I remember after I get somewhere that I didn’t put on lipstick, which is often.

I invested in several pairs of sunglasses this year and this pair was one of them.

I love stretch bracelets because they tend to not slide up and down my arm and they don’t have to be sized.

And finally, a cute cellphone case that I can switch out easily (I also have this one).

First up, is an outfit for work:

The top is Target and the black jeans are Madewell. If I had a meeting I’d switch out the jeans for these pants (and if you want to take the outfit even further into fall get the wool-blend version).

Second up, is an outfit for work or going out:

The dress I purchased for 60% off this weekend, so if you have a Gap/Banana Republic Card be sure to check it out! The denim jacket is on my fall list from Nordstrom.

And finally, an outfit to wear to go volunteer and then remove accessories and switch shoes for the gym. Or just remove accessories and shoes and do yoga.

These leggings are a thicker weight and the sweatshirt is comfy, but still stylish, layered with this sports bra and this tank.

Friday Favorites

Can we talk about our weather for five minutes? In the south our temps are notoriously hot beginning in mid-May. However, it’s June and 75 degrees. I mean. It couldn’t be more perfect. We stopped in Auburn on our way back from Disney last weekend and had the best time, I cannot believe how much construction is going on there! We’ve gotten back into the swing of things after our vacation, catching up on laundry, sleeping in late, and doing lots of reading. I’m knee deep in outlining chapters, extended lesson planning, and re-recording lecture videos for a new textbook. All of the things I have time to do now that I rarely have time to do during the school year. We are looking forward to pool time with friends today and then Father’s Day on Sunday! Here are some of my favorites from the week!

You had me at guava cake.

My favorite podcast of the week.

Amelia Bedelia….housekeeping rebel?

The video I had to save because not only do I love it, but also it shows the development of language that I can share with my foundations of communication course!

Adjusting foundation coverage, good for transitioning between summer and work.

Really the only cheese that needs to be on your charcuterie board.

The social influencer you need to be following. In other news…a great example of how something goes viral. Can you tell I’m lesson planning?

Lots of work wear ideas for fall featuring a pencil skirt.

Strawberry cake.

Got this faux leather hobo bag in my cart.

Summer is all about one pot meals. Or one plate. Or one grill.

Finally, I’m loving the brightness of this flushed coral lip gloss.
