A discovery I made during the past year. I hate skinny jeans. I mean hate them. Why am I pulling myself into a denim form of a legging that I really just want to not wear as soon as I’m wearing them? Hence my movement into wearing the jeans I actually am fine with, which are straight leg or bootcut. Straight leg I can do with them being a bit shorter, but bootcut have to hit 1/4 inch above the ground and no more. But, I digress as this post is not about bootcut jeans. It’s about straight leg jeans and how I wore them this week:
And yes, I put on shoes! As if I am going out. Which I am not. But if I were, I would wear these. All of these pieces I’ve had for awhile, so here’s the closest match for jeans, cardigan, T-shirt, and shoes. And, I’m also sharing my favorite red lipstick:
This is NARS Cruella. Listen. I don’t usually wear red lipsticks because I find them to be too high maintenance, but this one actually wears well. It’s going to transfer some:
However, for me, it really only came off noticeably if I ate oily food, or put a gloss over it. If you can handle wearing it matte, it’ll stay for a good while. I reapplied once after lunch, and it lasted through the end of the day and a 3 mile run, where it was boiling hot out. My other suggestion would be to get a lip liner to line the outside to prevent feathering.
If you know me, you know I don’t like turtlenecks of any kind. And off the shoulder sweaters are some my favorites. This sweater checks all the boxes, and was my Anthroday purchase from a month or so ago. It’s boxy, and the sleeves are big, but it’s got a casual 1990s, 90210 vibe to it. I’m wearing an xs. Paired with my favorite distressed jeans, and Frye booties it’s Fall happiness because it actually feels like Fall this year! The sweater is linked here, similar style to my shoes here, and I looked hard to find a close match to my jeans, and these Madewell ones are pretty close.
In addition to that, I’m loving my Naked Honey Palette eye shadow and Essie Say it Ain’t Soho nail polish, which are a great pop with the neutral sweater!
And my necklace and bracelets (which you can’t really see), are all local from Sweet Pineapple!
From last Fall to now, I’ve had to toss (and I mean literally toss out), several shoes and clothing items because I’ve had them for 15-20 years (yup, you read that correctly), and they fell apart. I was walking in a pair of shoes to teach and they came apart on the bottom of my foot. So, I’ve shopped online stores to start a Spring wardrobe capsule of replacement items.
I put in a Nordstrom order for a new pair of everyday slides, booties, and a black midi skirt:
At Madewell online I picked up these wide flair pants and a tie-dye top:
At Social Threads online I bought three new tops and two stretchy bracelets to stack:
And here are four ways to mix and match it all:
Happy online shopping, friends!!
Wow. We started the week with J having an ear infection and ended the week with learning that I’m going to online only classes. Three months into 2020 and here we are. Very thankful right now that we are all healthy and working really hard to stay that way. Here are some of my favorites of the week!
The perfect garage makeover.
Books around the world.
Kitchen and breakfast room inspiration.
Creamsicle gummy bears.
Loving Madewell’s new collaboration.
Even more kitchen inspiration.
Stovetop macaroni and cheese for meatless Monday.
Midi length pleated skirts.
Usually the week back from Summer vacation is a tough week, but this after Spring Break has been brutal! The best part of our week was getting A out of bed to watch the nail biter Tennessee/Perdue game. Grateful for a slow weekend with one baseball practice, dinner with friends, and lots more basketball watching. Happy weekend, friends!
I love a good rainbow.
Time really does fly as you age.
One of my favorite summer shorts in railroad stripe.
And a summer top to wear with my shorts.
My favorite yoga routine of the week.
Biscuits for breakfast thus weekend.
Women make the home.
Stranger Things 3 is what we will be binge watching this summer.
Waiting for these Minnie ears to come back in stock.
And finally, styling spring wardrobe basics.
We are on that cusp of Spring. Some days it’s almost seventy, other days it’s in the thirties. A forty degree temperature swing, in one day, is not unusual here in the South. However, I’ve got Spring on the brain, and I’ve been shopping for that in between time, and that one week of glorious temps before it nosedives into summer and is 100 degrees.
First up, is this super versatile cover-up from Social Threads:
Wear it as a swim suit cover in deep summer, or as a skirt with a perfect Tippi sweater from JCrew in Spring.
Second, a sweatshirt/sweater from Social Threads paired with a jean skirt from Madewell:
The jean skirt will wear well into summer, and the sweatshirt is a perfect layering piece for the chilly mornings of Spring. I’ll be wearing it with my favorite slip on sneakers.
Next up, literally my work uniform. I already owned all these pieces except the sweater, so I bought it on sale for less than twenty dollars. Seriously.
Finally, I know you’re going to think I’m crazy, but yes a jacket. We are about to roll into baseball season, and it swings between freezing and burning hot. I desperately needed a jacket to roll with the temperature swings, and I’m hoping this will do it. This is my “go to green” I have three other jackets in this color. Paired with water repellent work out shoes, and fun sunglasses, this updates my typical weekend leggings and tank combination.
