Project with graphite pencils

Apparently when you are four there is nothing more special or magical than getting to use big kid pencils. A talks about how he gets to use them at school, and feels like he has a big responsibility when he gets to use them at home. I am figuring it’s because it is their first introduction into being trusted to use a pointy object. I used to do craft nights with my friend Ashley in college and so I have collected quite a few paints, charcoals, and graphite pencils over the years.

I pulled them out the other day and asked A if he would like to join me in drawing a picture. A, excited at using a pencil (and a nontraditional eraser, to boot) said yes. Here is our final picture:

What I love about it is that A really enjoyed finding out how to make lighter and darker lines. He made a snake, a computer, and a guy using the computer. See if you can find them!
