Signs of Spring

The tulip leaves and eighty degrees mean Spring is right around the corner. While we may see another temperature dive before we completely kiss winter goodbye, I’m enjoying the beginning stages of planning for our spring gardening and summer activities.

B and I were out scouting spring plants and found this cool above ground garden:

Which left us wondering if we could build it ourselves…

Then we stopped by Frio’s for a birthday cake popsicle:

And this weekend A went to a birthday party at Top Golf:

If we’re golfing and switching out our latte for peach tea:

It’s a sign that Spring is right around the corner!

J Room Update Mood Board

J’s room is a space that I constantly feel like I’m trying to keep up with. Where A’s room is a large box, J’s room is smaller and awkwardly shaped. A also doesn’t like anything to change in his room, where J is more open to updates.  I updated it last year, and found myself again this year, struggling to keep up with his massive Lego buildings and art pieces. I’ve realized that we need to move up, instead of keep adding longer furniture. I’m also planning to re-paint in a cooler gray, to lighten the room and help it transform from little kid to big kid.

I love this room color:

And the character items here, J would love:

And I have ordered several Target items, and have planned a trip to IKEA to pick up a few more storage and decorating solutions:

One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, Eleven, Twelve

There’s a lot of white in my choices and that’s because J has several rich mahogany dressers and a smaller book case in his room already. Instead of trying to match to these pieces I go in the complete opposite direction with contrasting whites. I’m also bringing in some navy and blue tones with a couple pops of orange….and not just because we’re Auburn fans! I’m excited to pull it all together over the next few months and can’t wait to share the finished result!

Sleepovers + basketball + washing up

This weekend we had basketball games:

A cousin sleepover:

And J took a long nap on Sunday. He spends so much time keeping up with his brother and cousins, it’s nice to have a reminder that he’s still a little bit little:

And since flu is running rampant I’ve started the habit of wiping down all backpacks, lunchboxes, and bottoms of shoes when the boys arrive home from school, and on Friday I wash everything:

And just when I thought the boys had grown out of trains:

Lately

It’s still freezing here, we had a bit of a reprieve this weekend, in the form of 33 degrees. The boys bundled up and headed out in the frigid temps to at least be outside for a few minutes. Definitely a far leap from the seventy degree temperatures we had last January.

Despite the frigid cold we bundled up to run some errands, at Home Depot:

And Target:

B is working on a fancy metal earth R2-D2:

And when the boys aren’t braving the cold:

They’re lounging with the pups! And that’s a bit of our life lately.

Lately

It’s so ridiculously cold, y’all. We’ve spent our winter break attempting to do almost nothing and we were successful! I took a complete (and rare) break from work, and slept in. We played video games, built legos, and worked on puzzles with the boys. I read five books, and watched a bunch of movies. It was wonderful.

Now we are back to school and work in what, I believe, is a northern winter of some sorts ( -1?). I’ve been doing a bit of baking, one of my Christmas bakes that I thought was a total flop:

Turned out to be a winner with the addition of whipped cream.

And then I made everything bagel biscuits (from the new smitten kitchen cookbook) for lunch:

That I could eat again and again.

And I loaded up on groceries from Trader Joe’s:

I’m hoping this will hold me for a few months.

My Mom, sister, and I shopped the after Christmas sales:

And I stocked up on some of my Sephora favorites:

B and I celebrated our eleventh wedding anniversary and in true form of two parents in their thirties, I don’t have any pictures of just us, so this will have to suffice:

And that’s a bit of our life lately! Happy Wednesday!

A parade, party, and Christmas preparations

This weekend we picked out a new Christmas tree, since ours was nine years old and the lights didn’t work in the middle…

After much deliberation we finally decided on the perfect one:

No, not that one…it was almost ten feet tall.

Then we headed to meet up with my sister, Mom, niece, and nephews to purchase items for shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child:

It was a little crazy with five kids, but we managed to get everything:

Then on Saturday I took A to march with the Cub Scouts in our local Veterans Day Parade:

Afterwards we ran by Starbucks:

And then headed to a birthday party:

On Sunday we took a lazy day, since J hasn’t quite gotten over his nighttime cough he’s been dealing with for a week:

And got ready for the up coming week! Happy Monday!

Lately

J and I watched Wall-E for the first time and he loved it:

But before that he was my wedding date, while A and B were at Cub Haunted:

A turned nine:

And went to The Phantom Tollbooth play with his class (and Granna!):

We graduated to full Monopoly:

And the boys hiked Monte Sano for Cub Scouts:

And that’s a little of our life lately!

Weekend adventures

We’re at the point in the year where all of us are two feet jumped in with work, school, volunteering, sports, etc. so my blog is on a bit of the back burner at the moment. However, in a few weeks I’ll have some fun fall posts to share, so stay tuned! Until then, I’m playing catch up with our weekend highlights.

J got the golden star at his soccer game for scoring five goals! This kid LOVES soccer.

We celebrated B’s birthday and I surprised him and the boys with a Nintendo Switch:

B’s parents came into town for the weekend and we hiked part of Monte Sano during their visit:

And checked out the stream below:
